It's interesting how mainstream media has latched on to his story. Good article in Vanity Fair today.

He's the real deal with the ups and downs of a sports bettor, not the idiotic puff pieces they do on VegasDave types.

I was friendly with several of Billy's runners in the 1980's and 90's when BW and his group were flying high.

In early 1996, one runner left town with more than $200,000 of Billy's money.

The safe-deposit box at The Mirage was empty.

Billy had a copy of the runner’s Nevada driver's license, but not a lot of other information to catch the thief.

I played tennis with the runner a few days before the crime.

Yet I had no idea what was going down.

One of Billy's guys spoke to me and poked me for some information.

And then a reward was put out on the street: $25,000, if you bring the thief back to Las Vegas and $50,000, if you bring him back DEAD.

Yikes!

When I worked at Bookmaker, Billy called us a few times every week and asked us who stoled his plays..he didn’t like us moving the line before he could get down…he didn’t realize it was one of his own runners…he would bet the outs that were not on the Don Best screen before he would wager with Bookmaker and Pinny…he would also release a few fake plays early in the week in order to move the screen and then come back later in the week and bet his preferred team..he picked up a few sides and middles with this method..

Didn't the old guy that's been on JK's radio show run for Billy? I remember he said he was carrying Billy's money and was robbed
before he got in his apartment. But they didn't find the money in his socks.

The interesting thing about Boston and Billy's relationship is he worked as a college football handicapper for his group, not basketball.

I remember Boston said he worked on commission only if the bet won.

I dont approve of demonizing any gambler, whether it's walters, phil or anyone else, how many gamblers here wouldn't bet or even stock trade if they got an "inside" tip?

Correct.

Most Important Thing, Is To Put Together A Successful CON JOB While Campaigning.

Did they find him?

"A lot of holes in the desert, and a lot of problems are buried in those holes. But you gotta do it right. I mean, you gotta have the hole already dug before you show up with a package in the trunk. Otherwise, you're talking about a half-hour to forty-five minutes worth of digging. And who knows who's gonna come along in that time? Pretty soon, you gotta dig a few more holes. You could be there all fuckin' night."

"Meeting in the middle of the desert always made me nervous. It's a scary place. I knew about the holes in the desert, of course, and everywhere I looked, there could have been a hole.

Normally, my prospects of coming back alive from a meeting with Nicky were 99 out of 100. But this time, when I heard him say 'a couple hundred yards down the road,' I gave myself 50/50."

-- Robert DeNiro's Sam "Ace" Rothstein (as a re-imagination of the real life Frank "Lefty" Rosenthal) later in Casino

No. Walters people never found him. The runner's name was Bruce. i was good friends with him. Knew him in Chicago and he help me get my first apartment in the same complex that Bruce lived when i moved to Vegas in 94. i saw him almost every day that 1995 football season.

Never saw him or spoke to him again after the 96 Super Bowl. The Cowboys won but did not cover. He left town early morning Monday after that Super Bowl. He needed the Cowboys to cover. I have much more but this is not the place. If you knew his history it wasn't a complete surprise as to what happened. Degenerate gamblers. Whats there to say.

I know they never found him because about ten years later i was talking to a Buddy who didn't know what Bruce did in Vegas in 95. This guy worked on the backside of the Harness Horses and moved around a lot. He says to me Oh you know who i saw a few months ago at the Meadowlands Bruce. I said WHAT!!! Then i told my buddy the story.
