Even without the needed graded earnings Dunkirk could make it as a supplemental entry but thats highly unlikely. Looks like we are down to about half a dozen strong contenders now with Frisen Fire the leading candidate. The Santa Anita derby winner always has to be taken seriously as does the winner of the upcoming Wood Memorial.

Big Saturday coming up with three prep races. After that pretty much the Bluegrass and the field should be set. We should start to hear who is in and who is out by then.

Anyone holding any juicy future wagers?

General Quarters would be the best story in Horse Racing history for a Derby Winner. Good for that old fellow, he deserves it. He followed his hunch, taught the horse to run the right way and route, and has done the unthinkable. I hope the damn horse wins the entire thing.

Id even lose my prewager to see that.

The field should be just about set now. Guessing we can get a good idea as to who is in and who is out in the next few days. Hope some of the horse guys like Sanderson and Gyno can give us a rundown on who they like and don't as we get nearer to Derby day.

If I get a list, I will tell you who can and cant win.

Dunkirk, I Want Revenge, Pioneer of the Nile, Fresian Fire, Quality Road all can.. some others prolly cant as well. It will be a good field, but there will be many no-chancers in there as well.

All these Synthetic preps make it much hazier nowadays

I respect Dunkirk a lot, but he has a lot of history against him.. Lightly raced horses just do not fare well in the Derby. He will be coming from well off the pace too, so the dirt in his eyes, traffic problems, large crowd just might too much for such a lightly raced animal..

Big Brown was as lightly raced as possible. The dirt in the face: perhaps that is true. I do think if you look who will be in there, he will be anywhere from 8th to 12th early.. there are much slower than Dunkirk in the race. He won his debut in a 7 furlong sprint where he sat comfortably close early. He has room for vast improvement as well, and he is one of the only horses in the race I AM SURE will handle the added ground.

I love my prebet now, I wish I wasnt such a broke ass and couldve got more on him at 11/1..

Low-key Derby draw this year
With no major television programming to help carry it, the Derby draw for post positions will be a far less commercial affair than it has been in recent years, when it was held at the Fourth Street Live venue in downtown Louisville and televised live on a one-hour ESPN program late in the afternoon on the Wednesday before the Derby.
Instead, the draw for Derby 135 is set for noon Eastern Wednesday at the Marquee Village on the racetrack grounds. The same format that has been used in recent years - a random pill pull for drafting positions, with the selection of Derby posts by the respective horses' connections to follow - will be employed once again.

I always said Barbaro would have been a champion on Turf. I think if Barbaro hadn't broken down in the Preakness, Bernardini would've still won the race. Bernardini was a monster, purely speculation I know though.
