I used to be a machinist in aerospace/defense. Govt contracts are always looming. Most parts we were never allowed to know where they went. They would have many other companies making parts and they had no clue either. It's a much different business then say, auto manufacturing, where you know you're making a piston...the parts were very strange looking with EXTREMELY tight tolerances.

These countries need to fight back if they get attacked. You stand up to a bully and hit him in the face a few times they will think twice about starting shit. The US has been able to fight all the recent wars against tiny nations in a 30 against 1 situations and never lose any key military hardware. Nations like Syria and Iran together could pose problems if they wanted to. They have the capabilities to sink an aircraft carrier, shoot down some of those billion dollar stealth bombers or wipe a military base right off the globe.

All the war talk has them just lobbing missiles and dropping bombs on them just like Libya. They might be able to shoot down a few planes but there is going to be no significant causalities on the NATO forces or coalition of the willing or what ever they want to call it.

The US spends more than $500 billion annually on defense. China and Russia together just over $100 billion. The US has 11 aircraft carriers to China's one. Russia has an aircraft carrier too so they obviously mean business. Add in things like carrier strike groups and subs and it gets even worse for all those other guys.
And if you're going to bring up random irrelevant parallels to recent events then you might as well bring up Kosovo which is a non-random relevant parallel. Russia got super scary then too. Russia doesn't need a ton of nuces weapons nor spend a billions on it's military. Unlike US ,Russia has no plans to rule the world (at least for now) .
