Second winning day in a row, trying to get that mojo back. Today was a grinding day, the kind you need to have to build the bankroll. Mostly trading winners and losers and ending up on the plus side No bad breaks and could have been even better with a big dog shootout loss and a couple close hoops losses. But a few nice five set tennis wins to balance it out. Days like this are easier to tolerate than the wild swings of 9-1 or 1-9. Slow and steady wins the race.

Nothing significant other than a disappointing day. One game that was a three unit play turned out badly and that was the difference between a winning and losing day. Need to try and turn the general downward trend around. Nothing to panic about, but it is starting to resemble a slowly leaking faucet. My focus is all over the place and I need to get back to what were my strengths.

The old good news/bad news scenario popped up yesterday. The good news is that the Azarenka match was a no action bet. The bad news is that she was on her way to winning before she got sicked and retired.

You may remember I discussed the pros and cons of taking full match bet and one-set completed bets in tennis. By and large, the rule of thumb is to take the underdog for the one-set and the favorite for the match. I also said there were a few exceptions. It is important to stay on top of injuries and withdrawals in this sport. Azarenka had withdrawn from the previous tournament with a virus. Because of this, caution was taken betting her and opting for the complete match option. She won by retirement previously in the tournament which voided a winning bet. This time she retired with a stomach virus (rumored food poisioning). It was especially disheartening because she was playing outstanding and I had a future on her to win the tournament as well. In a way it made me sick to my stomach too.

We move on.

Sorry for taking so long to get back. Here's my take:

Last year's games are largely irrelevant given that the makeup of LMU is completely different. One thing that is the same is the monstrous mismatch in the middle with the Broncs Big John Bryant. Bryant went off for 36 and 15 last time they met and the Lion frontline is even more depleted now than then.

LMU is going to pack in the zone to slow down Big Red and the Broncs will have to beat them from the outside, something they are capable of doing. Both teams play at a pedestrian pace and that should be of greater benefit to the Lions. Rahon and Foster could light it up from beyond the arc. The Broncs rarely get in the 60s and the 70s and 80s are rarified air. With each possession counting more in a slow-down game the spread disparity could be a lot for them to overcome.

If LMU can keep the pace slow early, they may have something left in the tank in the second half. While they are completely clueless on offense and freshman Dubois has a gimpy ankle, sophomore Vernon Teel is shaking off the rust and should be the best athlete on the court. Santa Clara is not the best from long distance and while Bryant will get his points and rebounds, Coach Good will make Keating's troops beat them from the outside if he is smart. Add to the fact the public is overwhelmingly fading LMU at this point, all signs point to value with the dog.

Pace of game should keep it fairly close, I'm spitting out a 64-53 Santa Clara win.
