BOL GD...Looks like a lot of fun to be had 12io4j2w90. I hope your words on money management does not fall on deaf ears. I can see how this would definitely be a marathon and not a sprint.

Quick summary and discussion

Quick summary and discussion

Right now I'm struggling to find any kind of rhythm. Just not firing on all cylinders and it is showing as I'm just slowly bleeding negative. This is the time to review what your goals are and how you get there so that you do not stray off course. Betting is a funny thing where you can float adrift, not hit anything despite being on the right side, or hit winners blindly in a row depending on the way statistical deviation flows.

The Karatantcheva bet was still a good one. Basically a pick 'em that came down to 7-5 in the third. I will take +160 on that all year long and come out far ahead.

Need to get my winning mojo back here and get on a roll.

Discussion and commentary-important tennis betting point

Discussion and commentary-important tennis betting point

This is very important to emphasize in case you bet tennis:

Different books have differing rules when it comes to retiring during a match. Some will have the one completed set rule, others two sets, and still others the entire match must be completed.

In the case of the no action bet yesterday, Keothavong/Morita, one set was completed when Morita retired. If you bet at a one-set book Morita was a loss, if you bet a complete two sets book it was a refund/no action.

As a very general rule, you should be betting big favorites (especially if they are injury prone) at books where at least two sets or the entire match must be complete. When betting a bigger underdog, take the one set rule book. Obviously you should be aiming for the best price/line possible, but be careful in tennis especially in smaller tournaments or players who are injury-prone or coming off injury. Always check the injury reports as well to see if any players have lingering injuries that may cause a withdrawal.

In the case of the Morita bet, it was at a two-set book and therefore no action.

As for the day, I felt in a better rhythm and more confident in my bets and had a winning day. Any winning day is a good day and the losers that I had felt good about them.

We move onward.

Note that this is the largest play so far, yet still a very minor portion of the bankroll. Betting just over 2.5% of bankroll to win 1.8%.

Re: GD: 10k Asylum Bankroll Challenge

Cee,
I try to throw in a few helpful hints here where I can in the discussion summary. That is very important to know with tennis. Trust me there is no sicker feeling than seeing a -1900 or -2000 favorite roll an ankle up 63 41 and losing a bet.

Discussion and summary

Discussion and summary

Today my topic will be about being on the complete wrong side and losing.

There is not a lot you can do about being on the right side and having a bad break cost you to lose your bet. Conversely, what if you have made a bet and then procede to lose because you are on the wrong side? I do not mean a mistake where you can buy back the other side and eat the juice (which should be done in some cases). I mean simply handicapping wrong.

The most important thing to do is to learn why you made the wrong bet. Such was the case in the Karlovic/Devvorman tennis match. I had bet against Karlovic the last time out and did not do my due diligence on his opponent. After the match, I found out some information about him which would have made me pass or bet the other side.

Secondly, do not let what you see cloud your judgement in the future. I have seen this time and time again with the NFL when one team comes out gangbusters the week before, everyone is convinced they will blow their opponent out again, and they fall flat on their face. Big upsets in NCAA BB are usually followed by letdowns as well (witness Harvard over BC after BC shocked UNC). Sports are very emotional and it is difficult for any competitor to get up every single night out. Talent will usually win out, but do not let your eyes deceive you.

Just a few thoughts.

Great point GD. U feel the same way about foots? Any game you feel that are riding that high only to fall flat on their face maybe. Two come to mind to me but I could be off track.....Zona and Philly.

Re: GD: 10k Asylum Bankroll Challenge

BW,
Pretty much makes sense there. Although there is no little to no value at this point in the NFL season with the lines. I tend to pretty much ignore games and totals aside from contest-type plays and focus more on obscure props where there may be value.

Discussion and summary

Looking at the last column and finally seeing a plus sign in it feels good. Mentally, that provides a boost that will hopefully carry forward. I have discussed before about being the right frame of mind and its importance and it would be hard to argue that winning puts you in a superior mindset to losing.

Stuck to my strengths on some key winning bets. I had been scouting the women's tennis preliminary tournaments and had a very good feel for the way Azarenka was playing. Rode her to some nice wins throughout that tournament. Also got in a nice easy win on USD. The WCC is my strongest conference in hoops and I tend to have a better insight on some of the teams that hopefully pays off in winning wagers.

Cee and anyone else,
Make sure you do your own due diligence. Don't blindly follow anyone, myself included.
I will probably do a writeup on this game in the CBB forum in a bit.
