Playoffs are too small a subset, John, and the intensity is ratcheted up quite a bit. Therefore, my reasoning, backed up by stats I had researched some years ago, is that the better teams will not take chances on blowing a game vs. a lesser opponent, and in fact can benefit from taking out an opponent as early as possible. More time off for the starters late in games and days off in between rounds for a shorter series as a reward for taking care of business.

Pace is fine, but the Knicks and Celtics cannot hit a shot in the first half.

I think our 'over' play is in as much trouble as the Knicks, with Billups in street clothes and Stoudamire out, they have precious few scoring options. The Celtics, on the other hand, are masters at winning ugly. Keeping my fingers crossed.

Munson gave a reason above. To quantify the issue, NBA playoff DDDs are 19-31-1 ATS from the 2002 season up to last year. Of course, this year they are 5-0.
