Thanks Sharky.

There's a mom's trip alert.
Mom's trip is in progress for the Flames.
The moms will be at Anaheim tonight and LA tomorrow night supporting the Flames and their sons.
Flames will be very motivated on this road trip.

The moms and Flames get it done in OT!
The moms for sure would have given an advantage to Flames.
But I was not confident enough to post a play.

It's good the flames won.
Tonight's Flames in LA has been cancelled ( presumably due to fires in LA).
LA has seen enough flames this week lol.

The NJ/Montreal line looks very fishy to me Saturday night. NJ -184 at one of my books. Why? They just lost their very overrated 1st line goaltender in Markstrom for a number of weeks and will be going with former Habs backup Jake Allen. I doubt I'd favor NJ -184 at home let alone on the road in the fabulous forum on Hockey Night. A very dangerous, confident Montreal team playing the best hockey of the season so far and 1 point outside the 8th playoff seed. Montreal has the speed to skate with this young New Jersey bunch. I might even go as far as to say the wrong team is favored. They are begging you to take Montreal. It's too big a favorite for me so it's a pass, but it wouldn't surprise me at all for a convincing NJ win tonight.

One of the most historical buildings in the NHL is the Bell centre in Montreal.
I've been there a couple times.
I was there one time when Dick Irvin was looking at the all of the memorabilia on display.

Montreal might have more history and drama than any other franchise in the league.

Comment on the Canes-Rantanen trade.

Canes new GM Eric Tulsky's background was as a genius biomed science inventor and entrepreneur and hockey analytics nerd.
Now he's planning to win the Stanley cup with the Rantanen deal.

It loosely reminds me of a huge trade between Montreal and Detroit in January of 1971.
The Red Wings welcomed Guy Charron, Bill Collins and Mickey Redmond.
And the Habs hit the jackpot with Frank Mahovlich.

Wings GM Ned Harkness would experience deep regret for the move.
Harkness, btw, also moved Howe to defense???
These moves shortened Harkness' career in motor city commonly referred to as the 'darkness of Harkness'.

I see similarities between Rantanen an Mahovlich.
Both are elite speedy and skilled wingers who can pass and shoot.
Mahovlich was automatically a perfect fit in Montreal where skating and passing had always been at their core.
Mahovlich went on to win 2 cups with Montreal and was instrumental in these victories.

Rantanen will improve the Canes and we'll also learn just how important Mackinnon has been to Rantanen's success.

For me the Canes still have some concern with goaltending.
Fred Andersen is coming back from injury, and he's not clutch.
Meantime, Kochetkov is a wildcard with very limited playoff experience.

Coincidently, the Habs added Mahovlich the same year as their new goalie prospect.
That goalie prospect would be 6x Stanley cup winner Ken Dryden.

So Rantanen will help Canes but perhaps without stellar goaltending he won't be enough.

Good luck to all with your plays tonight.

Between football and especially basketball, I don't really have the time, or to be honest the hockey knowledge to play the NHL on a daily basis, other than firing in a bet here and there, I don't bet the NHL. I watch a lot of Panthers games, but don't really follow the league close until the playoffs start. I don't know how good the Caps really are, whether their great season will carry into the playoffs, but looking at their numbers, they look pretty fucking good, any way the other day one of my outs had their SC odds at +1700, I thought that seems pretty high for a team with their record, so I bit, so far that's the only SC future I have, I plan on adding a couple others as the season progresses or when the playoffs start. If any of the hockey guys here have an opinion on my +1700, please let me know, when it comes to the NHL, I'm not in the same league as guys here like Cho, Never Again, Bushay, Sharky, and that guy from Winnipeg, if any of you guys have thoughts on my Caps future let me know

Hi Kane, I'm not a futures guy so I'm probably the wrong person to ask.

But I do believe that the Caps at +1900 is definitely an overlay.
Puzzling to see they're 7-3 in their last 10 with bookend losses to Sabres and Canucks. LOL.

Real quick price comps I see are +1900 at Fanduel and +1522 at Pinnacle.
So you've got a solid market price.

The team has pros and cons.
A few pros I see are goaltending, size, and great veteran leadership.
I also believe right now there is a powerful force of chemistry or magic going on with this team
pushing hard to get Ovi his goals record of 895 catapulting him past 'the great one'.
I believe this has been a driving force for the Caps since training camp.

The cons I see are the Canes and Panthers blocking their way.
Also who is Spencer Carberry and is he up for the challenge?
I also remember that the Caps exited the playoffs last spring with hardly a whimper, being swept by the Rangers in the first round.

But there's a long way to go with the trade deadline coming Mar 7th.
Just my 2 cents and best of luck, sincerely.

Anyone else?

Looks like the wrong team favored in Ottawa tonight. 5th road game or not, Caps are clearly a much better team than Ottawa. They seem to be asking for Washington money again.

What a comeback and win for the Wings last night. Huge road trip for them with the Flames, Canucks, and Kraken on tap.

Yup! These are must-win games if they want to even think about the playoffs. February is actually a pretty cupcake schedule compared to March and April. But this a much better team now that McCellen arrived. Not sure exactly what that secret sauce was he added to the mix, but they have been in damn near every game since he's arrived. This team will be a perirenal Cup contender the more these young draft picks are called up. Very exciting time to be a Red Wing fan. The trade deadline will be an interesting one no doubt this year. A lot have been called up already and are playing well. But they are still loaded with high quality draft picks just waiting their turn. Wallinder, Cossa, Augustine, Danielson, Sandin-Pellika, Brandsegg-Nygard are all considered can't miss prospects. Likely others as well. It takes time to build a franchise properly and for the long run.

J.T. Miller has been asked to wave his no-trade for a trade to the New York Rangers. Source says the answer will be yes to that
Per Pierre LaBrun

Traded to the Rangers. JT Miller is a very head strong personality who IMO would only be happy in a handful of cities. The Big Apple being one of them. He should fit right in there. His play is very clutch. Like I doubt he would ever fit in in a city like Detroit or Nashville. He's gonna demand all that oxygen in that locker room. And if he doesn't get it, he's going to make his stay short and uncomfortable for everyone. I don't ever remember seeing him smile.

Wings almost blew it, then found a way for the 2 points. What a road trip. 4 out of 4 and now they get some rest until Saturday afternoon when they'll host the Lightning in arguably the most important game of the season to date.

Todd has found something - but make no mistake, not having Petry or Compher in the lineup possibly also has something to do with this run. Young wings are stepping up and we're seeing some different speed out of them.

Staying on the Wings - @Bushay or anyone, how likely do you think Detroit becomes a buyer for a 'long-term' addition to their roster? Thinking about guys like Byram, Powers, Cozens from the Sabres? Their defence isn't good (even close) to going on a deep run in the playoffs, but can you imagine in 2-3 years from now when their top 4 on the blue line are Seider, Edvinsson, Sandin-Pellikka, and throw in a Byram or Powers?

Team is getting close...

Hi Kane, as I've said, I'm not a futures guy but I do have couple of opinions.
First, looking at the prices. Canada is now +160 and USA is +172 at pinny.
With USA potentially getting home ice in Boston for the final it's a big advantage for them.
And at this point, not sure it's priced into the line.
International hockey is always packed with patriotic drama.

Second thing is their won't be a lot of physical play, like all star games almost.
Play will favor offense.
Will be interested to see lines for game totals when available.
We might see sevens, eights, and possibly nines after the first couple games in Montreal.
Good Luck, always.
