Second thing is their won't be a lot of physical play, like all star games almost.
Makes sense, guys are playing against teammates, can't imagine Tkachuk slamming Barkov into the boards, LOL. It should be fun to watch, especially with what should be a more wide open style, appreciate your thoughts

I think USA is the team to beat. They match Canada's forward and defence talent and EASILY have better goaltending.

All four teams obviously stacked and wouldn't surprise me to see Canada at the bottom.

So 4 Nations prices are up for Wed and Thurs.
Total goals for both games are 5.5 shaded to the over at pinnacle.

A little research from World Cup 2016 saw the average total goals was 4.92 in the group stage.
This is probably a reasonable, and perhaps the only comp for Books to use at this point.
So my earlier expectations for more offense is not justifiable based on history.

I will pivot to WTA until NHL league play resumes in a week or so.

I'm very interested to see if Alycia Parks (+138 ) can continue her solid play against Kenin tomorrow.
She beat a legit player in Diana Shnaider, ranked WTA 13, in her last, but was it a fluke?
I'm giving Parks a shot.
At 6'1" she's got a big edge over most opponents.

What I've decided to do is make a small play on every dog in this tournament. I just checked each countries roster, and every player plays in the NHL, of course some rosters look stronger than others, Canada is loaded with talent, but there are two factors leading me to play all the dogs. First, it's one thing for a player to play for an NHL team, but playing for your country is special, maybe guys play above their heads representing their home country, also, even though some rosters are more talented than others, these are guys who have never played together, individually great players, but throw them together with only time for a couple of practices, no way to know how they'll mesh, how much chemistry they'll have. As I said, these will be small plays, not willing to risk bigger money on my thoughts, I'll keep track of all my plays in this thread to see how I do.

If your books offer 4 Nations SOG props (not per player but combined), I think the under is going to hit throughout this tournament. Canada/Sweden total was 58.5 and USA/Finland was 55.5 where I played it. Defenses are just as good as the top lines and early viewing has shown that a lot of these players will look for the perfect shot instead of just getting them on goal.

I've had this happen to me getting burned by betting Quinn Hughes SOG where he's always trying to make a perfect pass instead of taking a decent shot on goal.
Sucks.

USA looked so good yesterday. Granted Finland likely the bottom of the four, but Saturday's Canada/USA showdown is hopefully epic. I'm already on USA.

Last night's game was a one goal game entering the third period, USA scored two quick ones and that was it. I also like the Americans tomorrow, I think they're the grittier, muckier team, I don't think muckier is a word, but you guys know what I mean by that. One interesting thing that happened last night, the USA coach put the Tkachuk brothers on the same line midway through the game along with Jack Eichel, and the results were fantastic, have to think they'll be linemates again tomorrow, really looking forward to the game, should be a great one

Canada may have the top flashy offensive weapons in McDavid and MacKinnon - cannot put them on the PP, but this line you mention would easily be the top line for me among any of the teams. Still having Hughes, Matthews, Boldy, Connor means your second and third lines are still 'top' producing lines on any given night. The biggest edge for USA though to me is between the pipes. Binnington has had a sub .900 save percentage two of the last three years and granted the Blues are trash, he would be third string behind both Hellebuyck and Oettinger, and by a mile.

On the Sweden/Finland prop of under 53.5 SOG. Already a lock 7 min into the period with 3 total shots. What is incredible, the rule of what constitutes a shot is NOT whether the tender makes contact from a shot, but the shot has to be only in the invisible 'gate' of what would go in the net if no tender was there.

Also, shots from in either neutral zone will not be considered shots but always 'dump ins.' If the tender catches it or makes contact, NO SOG.

Take advantage of these while they're in the 50s.

29 SOG through 40 min in a tie game. Even if they played 9 min 59 sec of 3v3 OT, don't think there's enough time for these twp teams to put up 25 more shots.

Great game, though.

My biggest fear in this tournament was an injury to a Panthers player, so I turn the game on and see Barkov limping off at the end of the period, couldn't tell if it was serious, but the limp was noticeable as the announcer said Panthers fans are holding their breath. They can't afford to lose him for an extended amount of time, hopefully it's nothing serious

Great overall game by USA. Canadians must be frothing at the mouth about right now. In their own building. If Canada makes it back to the final vs USA, we'll see a much more rambunctious, physical Canadian team. What a great game to watch.

Great game, USA easily the better team and deserved the win.

And of course, another game, another SOG total that flies under.

A hard hitting, tight checking game favors the Americans, the Canadiens want to play a wide open free flowing game, the style of tonight's game was to the USA's advantage. I hope Canda wins their next game so we get a rematch. Tkachuk left the game midway through the third period and didn't return, the guy's tougher than a two dollar steak, for him to take himself out is very worrisome.

I think what's being overlooked is that after McDavid and Mackinnon, who are the two best skill players between both teams, US has a massive advantage across the lines. The style they play, with their personnel, looks like it will outmatch and frustrate Canada. Look how easily they even neutralized Mackinnon tonight. Simple.

For me, tonight just solidified how I felt once these rosters were created.

US blue line is by far the best in this tourney, even if/when Makar returns. Only mistakes will cost this team the gold.

Love watching the Tkachuk brothers play, those guys are throwbacks, old time hockey, if you asked me to name the players most likely to record a Gordie Howe hat trick, they would be the first guys I would think of

This may come in handy once we start up again. My wings have their work cut out for them once again.

Strength of schedule down the stretch.

Tough indeed - really hoping that the way Larkin and Raymond stepped up for their countries @ 4 Nations carries over and propels this team even further. We've gotten comfortable with teams like Florida, TB, Jersey always just being better, but the difference between 'us' and 'them' is so narrow now.

As it relates to tonight, game basically a pick'em, from Canada, and I'm still firmly on the US for tonight. Injuries for US aside (especially McAvoy), but for me it boils down to the difference between the pipes.

Jordan was having the game he needed to vs. Finland leading into this game, and then it went south very, very quickly. The difference in him coming into tonight with a shutout versus giving up the 3 he did, I think makes the world of difference.

To say Hellebuyck is on a heater in international play is an understatement of the year.

Interesting note - commercial time outs in this tournament are a full minute longer than NHL (90 seconds in NHL and 2:30 in this tournament), essentially giving the likes of McDavid, MacKinnon the ability to have more ice time. But tonight, don't think it matters. Anticipating a very tight first period...lots of neutral zone trapping and congestion before things open up in the second a bit more. Seeing another 2-1/3-1/3-2 type game. Definitely on the under 5.5 as well.

EPIC game for the ages again tonight with the 'home' team getting it done.

I played Seattle +220 against Florida Saturday. The Panthers had eight players in the 4 Nations, that's almost half the team, and by far the most of any NHL team, after playing at such an emotionally high level they now have to get back into the NHL schedule, I have to think it will be a bit of a letdown the first game after the tournament, especially the guys who played last night, Tkachuk, Bennett, and Reinhart might have a tough time coming down from the emotions of playing last night, Tkachuk got hurt and might not even play, I think this line will drop by game time, I think the Kraken are a live dog

Already on the same for same reasons. I highly doubt Tkachuk plays or even skates for upwards of next week. For him to play as little as he did in the Gold medal game, says enough to me. I'd be questioning a few things if he came back tomorrow or even Tuesday @ Nashville. Either of Bennett/Reinhart, if they play, wouldn't surprise me to see them both get reduced minutes. Florida will be okay to give these guys an extra day or two considering the grind they're about to head into.

It will be interesting how they play after the layoff. Especially with that brutal schedule ahead. If they slip a bit coming out of the gate, it may force Yzerman's hand if the right fit presents itself as we get closer to the trade deadline and playoffs. Hopefully, they can somewhat continue this recent form. The Lord knows they are due for some luck to come their way soon. Larkin's been showing some real leadership this season, he works his butt off every night. He's not your typical tough-guy captain but he leads in other ways that are equally important to setting a winning example.

For anyone interested, this guy is a really good Twitter follow. He posts all day and night on game days. Also has a sister channel for starting goaltenders and game day lines. Mainly for fantasy players but just as valuable for hockey gamblers. I turn on notifications from him on my phone. He's on top of most everything newsworthy.
