So the surface is causing horses to break down, right? Change the surface. I thought the whole point of synthetic was to be safer for horses, if it's not, then you abandon that idea. The experts can't figure it out. There has been a ton of rain here, including today through Friday.

They did switch back to dirt with a sand base. The sand I believe was to help absorb the water. Obviously not working to well. I wish Crick would chime in, I'm sure he could explain it way better than me. But he does't seem to post here much any more. Like JK said, sad.So the surface is causing horses to break down, right? I didn't know that, you're saying that Santa Anita no longer has a synthetic surface? They did switch back to dirt with a sand base. The sand I believe was to help absorb the water. When did they change, i seem to recall a year or 2 ago they would talk about how california horses shipping east for big races needed to adjust to non-synthetic surfaces, etc? That is correct. Same with Del Mar.
ThanksThey did say that but more like 5 years ago.
Quite a few people must be blaming TRUMP

blast from the past...interview with Dennis Moore...why was he fired ?
I don’t think it would be long until most tracks are synthetic. Way safer, though I can’t stand the racing.
They need to contact people who do the surfaces on the east coast tracks. Nyra tracks and laurel have taken so much precipitation and you very rarely see breakdowns from surface issues.
I would disagree, nickle claimers are likely tougher than horses born and bred(and pampered) for high prices, they just cant run as fast.Qualty is a big factor. Nickle claimers are going to have more soundness issues
We're talking about 1 thing, breaking down.Tougher and sounder are not the same thing
Some of them run every week to 10 days, to me that's training.it would be an unusual occasion for a nickle horse to be trained harder than a horse of more value
You don’t think safety becomes more prioritized if peta makes a strong effort to ban horse racing?
Less than you thinkSome of them run every week to 10 days, to me that's training.
