I got a mailer today from the Orleans. Rooms free just pay resort fee ($23.72). Naturally Sun-Thur, nonetheless I do see this as a growing trend with off strip properties especially with out of state residents.

with the phones being fast now.... the resort fee is a scam for casino's...people cannot cancel out the internet in the room. What scam is next in vegas... $10 room charge for an umbrella ?

It's not cheaper than walking. As long as one isn't going to the South Point, or the Orleans or Fremont Street, a car isn't necessary, IMO.

nothing cheaper than walking... but hard to walk from the M to westgate..... M to south point walking is a good walk in the heat.

the 3-day pass for the Deuce Line from Fremont St to anywhere on the strip is $20 or $8/day. A cheap alternative.

It is a long way to Las Vegas from here.
I have been 23/24 times.
I havent been since 2014...I wouldnt go again if the airfare was free.
They can suck my meat if they think a place like Hooters can justify an extra $33/$34 a night on TOP for a load of made up shit like a "resort fee"
Resort fee,the fucking fraud thieves.
Just advertise the real room price instead of all this nonsense.

I assume it's the casino's answer to the Expedia's and Travelocity's of the world grabbing 20% of every hotel booking.

I am far from a travel expert but was told the reason for the resort fee was so they can advertise lower room rates...then get more views on booking sites...then of course just add a load of made up shit on top to get it the real price.

When do we see a hotel advertise FREE rooms? my guess is it will happen soon,of fucking course them rooms wont be free...theyll be a £120 resort fee to pay.

Because has lived there since around 1993 I have made the drive at least 125 times and probably 150+. I used to make the drive 5-ish times a year. Last year I went once - in June to celebrate Sis' 50th B-day. When parking was free and rooms and food not far from it and you could find a $5 single deck BJ table playing 3-2 I would go all of the time. I could often always get an extra 1/2 point because books were not all tied together. Now when I go I stay around Sis' area - Summerlin - and spend time out there and not much time at the Strip. Only time I went near the Strip in June was when I had to Mystery Shop stuff at 4-corners on Trop/LV Blvd. The Bean Counters have ruined Vegas. I 100% agree with JK than Benny and Jackie are rolling in their graves. I might add Bob Stupak, too.

Maybe a casino should advertise its higher rates but emphasize no resort fees. People would rather pay higher fees upfront instead of getting nickel and dimes to death in hidden fees.

The new legislation heading to Congress banning resort fees won't have much effect on Vegas, they'll just add it to
the rooms. Currently,, entire fee goes to the hotel from travel sites, hotels will have to live with a little less.

Resort fees made 2.8 billion for hotels last year.

Going on my longest stretch without a trip to Vegas. I got .95 VP an hour away and sports betting at my fingertips. Throw in airfare costs and escalation of criminal incidents, not feeling the urge. Used to be a two to three trip a year guy. Nearing two years since my last jaunt.

At least you’ll know the cost up front. The thing I hate about Vegas is getting nickle-dimed on everything.

I lived in Vegas full time from 1980-87…some of the best times in my life…
Corporate bean counters ruined the town and atmosphere…there were only around 275000 people there in 1980…. My daughter who just turned 40 was born there….haven’t been back in over seven years…

hotel, luggage, transportation, rooms, then they'd come out of the elevator, look at each other and say, what do you want
to do.

Holy crap is that ending of casino true today to a T.

It's sad that hospitality has fallen to kiosks at check ins instead of that personal touch of a smile and a $20 credit card sandwich for a room upgrade.

If one casino/hotel went back to this old school personal touch I would have to believe they would leap frog over everyone else in a matter of months when word of mouth would spread how nice it feels to be treated as a person instead of a number.

Who takes this step? Circa?

Granted, I lived in CA in 2015-18 so dirt cheap flights. Now with sports betting almost everywhere, no reason to go.

I've been 60-80 times. My first trip was greater than 25 years ago.

The ONLY reasons I go now are to enter the football contests, and if the season is profitable, another trip to collect.

The place sucks now. I just seemed to suddenly come to this conclusion after loving Vegas for many years. Yeah, part of it stems from being married and older, but if not for the football contests, I doubt I'd ever visit again. My better half went with me during January to pick up contest winnings. She doesn't sugarcoat things, and she thinks Vegas is a heaping garbage dump. What isn't a garbage dump is overrated, overpriced, superficial bullshit.

Unless the haul is 500k + I really doubt I'll ever again be able to convince her to travel to Vegas.
