EOG's favorite team (Chicago State is OUT, UC-San Diego is IN)

The Chicago State University Ice Hockey Team produced 2 NCAA Division 2 All-Americans in the 1975–76 season. George Hansen and Bob Janecyk were selected in 1975–76 to the NCAA (College Division) West All-American Team. Janecyk was selected two more times designated as an NCAA (College Division) West All-American Team goaltender for CSU in 1976–77 and 1977–78. He went on to play for the Chicago Blackhawks of the National Hockey League.[5

Time to find a new favorite team here at EOG. Should we go with a little guy that's actually a winner, or another sorry program that's fade city?

You make the call, WildBill.

We need a team with a unique personality and interesting story.

And, of course, it's all about the betting edge.

Maybe when they both get through their Covid issues the Chicago State men can play exhibition games against the Duke women. Might be halfway competitive if they don't have the 7 footer around.

Haha.

I'll take Chicago State, masks and all, for the limit.

Ok I got it JK. UC-San Diego. They are 2-0 on the season because they beat something called St. Katherine twice. Sounds like a girls high school team.

Anyways they have no business being in a D-1 sports league, its like 90% Chinese students all studying pre-med. I should know, my sister went to UCSD and competed in varsity sports there. She said they would never be competitive because the 4th string at San Diego State would wipe them out. Its kinda like Chicago State in that there are a bunch of D-1 basketball programs there and about 5 talented kids a year come out of San Diego, they lose all the talent to the real sports like surfing and lacrosse.

Sagarin isn't convinced by their 2-0 start, he's got them 355 out of 357, which includes mighty Chicago State. I think this should get the doomed title of EOG's favorite team.

We have a winner.

Or is that a loser?

UC-San Diego, perfect.

Let's go Tritons!

The team's much-anticipated Big West debut on January 1 was recently canceled due to COVID-19 issues on the Cal-Poly SLO side.

So 2020.

One other note: All UCSD home games this season will be televised by ESPN3.

Who knew?

RIMAC Arena is home of the UCSD Tritons.

RIMAC is an acronym for a name desperately in need of an upgrade.

If the Tritons want their proper place in Division I basketball, they need a better arena name than Recreational, Intramural and Athletic Complex.

The facility seats 4,000.

Can't beat the location, however, in La Jolla, California.

The 2021 conference schedule breaks down in an interesting way for the newest member of the Big West.

They'll be favored in every home game, if you trust Pomeroy's projections.

Eric Olen is the head coach at UCSD.

He's been associated with the program since 2004, shortly after his NAIA playing days ended.

Olen has been the head coach at UCSD since 2013.

Wow that arena is awful. Fullerton's is pretty terrible, like a high school gym, but has ten times the character of that. Looks like the indoor equivalent of a prison yard.

How many teams are in Illinois? Its a fucking soup, Western, Northern, Southern, Eastern, State, the Ilini, Northwestern, Loyola, Ill-Chicago, Depaul, Bradley...and then these clowns at CSU. Why do they exist? CSU sounds like the kind of school where no one is on campus after 5pm. If there was ever a need for contraction this is it.

You forgot one. Anybody? (No googling)

Not 100% sure but I believe the forgotten school is D-I in hoops only.

Shoot i thought California had some obscure MBB schools like Bako and CBU but who but folk just north of St Loius has heard of the Cougars. Maybe OVC specialists I guess.

Bill, all I see -- up and down the roster list -- are bullshit majors, as you put it.

Where are the engineers and mathematicians?

I see mostly sociology, psychology, human development and international business students.

Maybe Jake Killingsworth, the business analytics student, could improve our basketball betting models.

Maybe.

More cancellations for the Tritons.

UCSD's debut in the Big West Conference has been delayed until January 15 when they will visit UCSB to play the Gauchos.
