Dave Cokin, portrait of a fraud tout

Re: Dave Cokin, portrait of a fraud tout

Didn't you go to journalism school?

Do you remember when Alan Boston got hit in the head with a lead pipe in the middle of Las Vegas Blvd between the Stardust and Riviera?

The bosses at Boyd Gaming told you not to discuss it on air and like a little bitch you said nothing.

For you to say anything about someone's journalist skills is laughable.

Dave "The MeatMan" Scandaliato
I discussed the incident the following Friday night on the Leroy's show at the Riviera, where the attack took place.

Boston even joked about having a "lead-pipe cinch" the next week.

Conclusion: too many mind-altering substances leads to a fuzzy memory.

Re: Dave Cokin, portrait of a fraud tout

>>But here's a good example of how touts hurt us -- the media and many sportsbooks promote these idiots as experts --
an obvious example is the Westgate is raking 8% out of the SuperContest entries partially to promote "SuperContest Weekend"<<

I also believe that the explosion in the proxy business has had a peripheral negative impact. Yes there are more entries,
but most never set foot in the Westgate after signing up so part of the intended benefit to the casino for offering
a full pay-back contest is circumvented. The weekly foot traffic is just not there for well over half the contestants.
More work for Westgate and without the accompanying bodies walking through the door. The proxies benefit instead.

I was listening and JK is right - he did say it.

What is the o/u for the number of proxies Meatman can handle on a given Saturday before he screws it up..... Setting it at 1.5 -160

Also the Westgate staff creates more work than necessary by fraudulent activities like "converting" hidden tout aliases into more "identifiable" tout names if their Week 1 results are good. Then Kornegay has the balls to promise not to do it in the future, but it continues. So now they charge 8% to in part pay for the staff to take the time to change first week aliases and obfuscate results.

Great operation!

You talked about the incident a week later?

That's real journalism!

My guess is you had to talk about it the following week to explain why the show was cancelled the week before.

Once again for you to say anything about anybody's journalism is laughable.

Because he had to explain why the show was cancelled the week before.

JK did seven(7) radio show inbetween without saying anything.

For Kelly to say anything about anybody's journalism skills is laughable.

Funny. I'd imagine the ratio that told Bovi or anyone else for that matter was 10-1 they said the same thing about you. Maybe more.
Somebody takes me to eat in Las Vegas almost seven(7) days a week.

Bovi still cries to this day about not taking him to McDonald's.

Regarding the use of proxies, another thing that I consider to be pretty shady, though not related to the fee, is that the Westgate allows proxies to also enter the contest themselves, which is a tremendous conflict of interest. I have literally never once seen a journalist, publication etc comment on that, just lots of fluff "the Super Contest is a great deal for contestants! They have a Super Contest weekend with seminars from pros with a great golf weekend," and that stuff of course is funded by the entry fee anyway. Quite a few people said on Twitter they complained to the Westgate about the proxy conflict of interest and just got blocked.

The Westgate blocked me after T00d Fuhrman told somebody to go bet some future at the Westgate and I replied "that's a terrible price, you can get a 4x higher payout offshore." Why offer competitive pricing when you can just block people?

Re: Dave Cokin, portrait of a fraud tout

Two sides to every story Groovin. I mentioned to Dave there was a thread ripping him at EOG. He laughed and said "let me guess who". Your reputation isn't exactly sterling now, is it?
Touts need any kind of attention, keeping their name out there's a big part of drumming up business.
Dave's probably loving this thread and all the responses its inspired...

Re: Dave Cokin, portrait of a fraud tout

Cokin outdid himself today. Someone asked me "Isn't Dave Cokin the guy who blocked you because you posted his records and they weren't good?" and Cokin replied "I have no idea what his records are." At first I thought Cokin was referring to himself in the first person, but then I realized he meant he "has no idea what my records are for him." That is a blatant lie because in our conversation when he joined Pregame, he tried to convince me he picks 55% but advertising a 55% win rate would kill his business because people have unrealistic expectations. I said "but you don't pick 55%, I have ~6000 picks of yours from Vegas Insider and graded vs real lines, you pick around 55%." He then unfollowed and blocked me on Twitter because I don't "mind my own business."

If there were something inaccurate about my record keeping, Dave could simply reply with "you are in error, here are my verifiable documented records," but of course he can't, he has to hide behind the same RJ Bell excuse of "I can't show records because the dishonest touts give people unreasonable expectations." Anyone who wants can look at his VegasInsider record and remove all the Bovada, sportsbook.ag, closed casino etc lines and grade the picks vs widely available lines, and see that his record is around 51.5% normalized for -110.

Re: Dave Cokin, portrait of a fraud tout

The Stardust Line win rate +60% put him on the map. He was making 6 figures with the 800 numbers years following that. He blocked me immediately when I asked why he posts winners immediately but delays the losers with no price.

Re: Dave Cokin, portrait of a fraud tout

So Cokin is up 12 mlb units this year with Pregame but down 16 units with VI.

Don't know whether to laugh or cry....

He's giving Pregame his best effort.

The Vegas Insider selections are his lowest-rated selections.

Everything he releases on VI gets graded at 1u. His Pregame picks are often graded as 0 unit free plays (which RJ justifies because "some of our customers don't like to bet the free plays). and the ones that are given a unit size are mostly graded at 2u, but sometimes at 1u or 3u. The more you vary your grading from site to site, the better the chance one particular set of grading will do better due to random variance, and you can advertise that record.

At the all star break he was -24u on VI and +12u on PG, so for the last two weeks and change, I guess he's won 8u on VI while breaking even on Pregame.

Re: Dave Cokin, portrait of a fraud tout

Cokin had a free picks number a few years back. He loaded a side overnight with analysis then unexpectedly sold the other side next day. Naturally he explained it off as a phone glitch.

Typo in here, I meant "but you don't pick 55%, I have ~6000 picks of yours from Vegas Insider and graded vs real lines, you pick around 51.5%." Two years later his record on VI is still around 51.5% when graded vs real lines.

Spartan on Pregame did this not long ago on some NCAA basketball game and explained it as "the free play was unofficial."

Re: Dave Cokin, portrait of a fraud tout

As if on cue, Dave lost his 2u play on Pregame but won his free play, which is a 2u loss on Pregame, but on VI it was a small profit as both were 1u and the winner was a dog moneyline, so a profit of +0.23u on VI. As soon as the game ended, Dave helpfully informed his Twitter audience that he made "a small profit on the day." No mention of the fact that he lost 2 units on Pregame. Tout scum as always.

Re: Dave Cokin, portrait of a fraud tout

to get dave's best plays you would have to spend 5k for bases. Those are the cream of the crop plays. That is what he told me on the phone.

Groovin, what are you doing today?

Re: Dave Cokin, portrait of a fraud tout

groovin has an infatuation with Cokin, and its unhealthy. We all know about the tout world there is nothing new here. Don't know you man, but maybe you talk to someone about an issue you are having

I have probably written about at least 30 different touts just in the 5 weeks since the Deadspin article came out, possibly more, and most of them have at one point said I and others are "obsessed with them." There's nothing unique about Dave compared to any of the other scammers on Pregame. Obviously everyone doesn't know all about the tout world, because I was supposedly criticized someone on here or on the EOG radio show for criticizing "good guys like Dave Cokin." "Good guys" don't advertise themselves as "up +13u in MLB" on one site when they are down -24u on all the MLB picks they have sold this year.

When one of PhillyGodfather's egg troll accounts replied to Dave with PGF's absurd "Groovin is a deadbeat dad" nonsense, Dave replied "Wow! That rates a follow." Yet he blocks people who post his records saying they should mind their own business, and has also contacted other touts on Twitter like Oskeim Sports (the guy who deleted losing picks and blamed them on his kid) to "warn" them about me. Kind of hypocritical, dontcha think?

Re: Dave Cokin, portrait of a fraud tout

On radio show 2day, Cokin said that he took GBay pk (-105) early and then bought back w/ Indy pk (-105) when he heard injury news.

Guess that means he'll eat $2 on the game.

Sites like Covers insult your intelligence.....they give you these recycled old horses and market them like the next big thing. 3* on Halos out of the gate looks like a loser unless you upgraded to 'guarantee' status giving you another pick to lose your money for free.
